GPT-5.2, and other cutting-edge capabilities. This guide explains what verification means, why it's needed, and how to complete the
process.

What is Organization Verification?

Organization Verification (also known as Verified Organization status) is OpenAI's identity verification system for API users. It
confirms that the person or business using OpenAI's API is legitimate and trustworthy.

Think of it as a "Know Your Customer" (KYC) process, similar to what banks use when opening accounts.

Why Does OpenAI Require Verification?

OpenAI introduced this requirement for several important reasons:

  1. Prevent Abuse - Stop malicious actors from misusing powerful AI capabilities
  2. Security - Protect against IP theft and unauthorized data extraction
  3. Regulatory Compliance - Meet global data protection and AI governance requirements
  4. Capacity Management - Ensure fair access to advanced models for verified users

What Do You Need for Verification?

To complete the verification process, you'll need:

  • ✅ Government-issued ID - Passport or driver's license from a supported country

  • ✅ Live selfie/liveness check - To confirm your identity matches the ID

  • ✅ Business information - Your legal business entity details (if applicable)

How to Verify Your Organization

Follow these steps to complete verification:

  1. Go to OpenAI Platform Settings
  2. Click on "Verify Organization"
  3. Follow the prompts to upload your ID and complete the liveness check
  4. Wait for verification to complete (minutes to several days)
  5. Once verified, access to advanced models will be enabled within 15 minutes

Important Restrictions

⚠️ One ID per organization per 90 days - Each government ID can only verify one organization every 90 days. This prevents rapid
multi-entity verification.

⚠️ Not all organizations are eligible - Some organizations may not qualify for verification based on OpenAI's policies.

⚠️ Country restrictions - Verification requires an ID from a country supported by OpenAI's API.

What Happens If You're Not Verified?

If your organization is not verified and you try to use GPT-5 or other restricted models, you'll see an error message like:

"Your organization must be verified to use this model. Please go to https://platform.openai.com/settings/organization/general and click on Verify Organization."

If you're using AITalk's Agent Studio with GPT-5 or later models, make sure your OpenAI API key belongs to a verified organization. If
you encounter verification errors:

  1. Contact your organization's OpenAI account administrator
  2. Have them complete the verification process
  3. Wait 15 minutes after verification for access to propagate
  4. Try your agent again
